A "Winter Woodland Wander"

Hutchcomb's Copse will be open for charity between 1100 and 1400 hours on Saturday 14th December.

Invitation to all our neighbours and friends

Dear Neighbours and Friends,

We are delighted to invite you to join us in our incredibly special woodland, Hutchcomb’s Copse.  With Christmas in mind, we will provide mince pies and a tour of the Copse.  There might even be some sprigs of Holly and Ivy available to celebrate the season!

We will be pleased to meet you and talk about how we plan to protect and preserve the Copse as a refuge for wildlife. This is so important as we are losing too many of our green spaces to development, which is taking a terrible toll on wildlife and biodiversity. You and your properties will continue to  enjoy the security of no development and no general public access on this, your neighbouring land.

The Copse is owned by our charity and we will be focused on raising funds for the Copse over the next year. We would really appreciate your support - do you have ideas of how we might go about this?  Would you be interested in ‘sponsoring’ a tree ? Are there local businesses that you know of that might like to build an ongoing relationship with us? Could you make an introduction for us? Do you have stories about the Copse that will help us in continuing to record its history?  Do come and share with us!

We will be on site between 1100 and 1400 hours on Saturday 14th December. The entrance to the Copse is between 87 and 89 Hurst Rise Road.  Remember to wear walking boots or footwear for rough ground, warm clothes and to bring a walking stick if it would help you navigate the steep and slippery tracks around our Copse.  It is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Please note that dogs are not allowed in our wildlife refuge. Whilst we will provide mince pies, this is a wild place and there are no other facilities on site.

We also hope to have a small number of very special candles, made for us by Wild Nature Candles.  Eco-friendly and made from soy wax, with a tree planted for every candle sold, ours are titled ‘Hutchcomb’s Copse – the Scent of an Ancient Woodland.’ They are delicious! We will be selling them at £12 each.  Please bring cash if you wish to take some woodland scent home with you – our card reader may misbehave under the tree cover !

If you would like to show your support for us in our woodland , then we would be pleased to receive a financial donation and/or practical help.  Do come and talk to us about how you might like to get involved.

Please check our website https://www.hutchcombs-copse.org.uk/ the night before (i.e. on Friday 13th December) – we will post there if weather conditions mean we need to rearrange the meeting.

We really look forward to meeting you, chatting, and showing you around our favourite place.  If you can’t make the 14th then get in touch to arrange another time to visit.

With kindest regards

Eileen, Julia, Linda, and Richard
