Friends of Old Hutchcomb's Copse

Old Hutchcomb’s Copse is a small ancient and semi-ancient native wood (ASNW) on Cumnor Hill close to Oxford City. The site has been wooded continuously since before 1600. Some of our great oaks are thought to be over 300 years old. The Copse is an important natural habitat that has survived despite the development of the surrounding urban area. Oxfordshire Badger Group bought the wood in 2022 and seeks to build a community - The 'Friends of Old Hutchcomb's Copse' to help ensure that it will be:

• sensitively managed to increase the biodiversity of the flora and fauna;
• a private place with controlled access
• used for appropriate community, creative and educational purposes; and
• an unspoiled wildlife haven and never be developed or exploited

How to become a Friend: Simply pledge your support by signing up to join our mailing list for newsletters and invitations to events. There is no obligation to give any of your time or money to the copse. However, if you are able to contribute there are many ways to get involved – and you may well think of more – but these are our starting points:

• Make a one-off or regular donation to the conservation appeal
• Donate to adopt a 3m square (or larger) part of the copse
• Join a work party
• Help administer the Friends, organise an event or fundraise
• Offer advice or professional expertise
• Visit the Copse at our open days or take part in an organised event
• Offer to become a Patron of Old Hutchcomb’s Copse by making a larger donation or by lending your name, influence, and contacts to raise its profile and attract donations and supporters
